What is a jersey shore guido? I know that many people have watched the Jersey shore on MTV and have very misconstrued ideas on what exactly a guido is. You see in the old days when the Italians were coming to America the terms daigo, wop, guinea, and guido were derogatory and if you used them you could expect a fight if nothing else. Somewhere along the line however the term guido has become a term used very loosely by just about everyone in every setting when discussing these folks running around the television on Thursday nights. The modern term of guido (or jersey shore guido) is one who gets a fake tan, has enough hair gel to grease a car, juiced up, party animal with little regard towards womens feelings and what not. Im not sure what to think of this modern term being that I am 100% Italian and the only people that call me a guido are my other Italian friends as a term that pokes fun at the ski suit or hair gel that I have. The reason the Italian society has brought up concerns for shows like the jersey shore and the sopranos is because people think it sheds Italians in a bad light. People assume that the characters on these shows are Italian but jwow and snookie for instance are not even Italian! Im not sure what to think about jersey shore guidos, or guidos in general for that matter, but when its all said and done I think the show is very entertaining and I will definitely be ordering the jersey shore dvd when it comes out for sale on February 23rd.
